i THINK i have read everything i can get my hands on. This is our current set up. Thoughts on putting down shelving paper under chips to ensure box stays dry?

I would recommend using just paper towels as their floor for the first couple of days as chicks instead of wood shavings. Having the paper towels will help the chicks not eat things they aren't supposed too yet and it can help steady their feet. Hope this helps and good luck with your chicks!

guess i should have specified, we are at 3 weeks old now

That's okay, the shelving paper probably won't matter. I've just used the pine shavings for my chicks and they did fine. They shouldn't be getting the box wet anyway.
