Hi all!

Total newbie here. This is my first post but I have been reading this forum for quite a while. Great info here! I have tried searching but can't find the info I am looking for. We just got 19 Partridge Rocks chicks 6 days ago. The brooder is just the cardboard strip that they sell inside of our coop. We have no room in our house, no garage, etc. so that was the only option. I have read the 5 rule...and we have been able to keep the temp pretty consistent so far. Having temps in the 90s during the day, we have turned the heat lamp off. We turn it on at night, adjusting height as needed for the mid 70s.

My question is that the 5 rule says you should drop temps 5 degrees every week. What happens if we can't get the brooder below 90 after next week? Will this harm the chicks? We had two windows in our coop plus drilled holes for ventilation but noticed they were hot the other day. So we built a screen door and plan to add another window on the south side. So I think there is plenty of ventilation, but just wondering if the temps don't keep dropping will they be ok? Thanks for any info!

I just had chicks hatch from my broody hens yesterday. It's been 100 degrees here and they seem fine. My grown chickens are also fine.
