Brooder box cover

at what point do I need to worry about my two chicks being able to escape out of the brooder box? They are about 2 weeks old and in a box about a foot or so deep.

The time is now! They will shortly have escaped that box and you will frantically be searching for them. You should put either a piece of hardware cloth or chicken wire over the top. This is also a good time for you to put a little roost in for them to become accustomed to.

Yes, any time now, they will be flying out of there! You need some mesh on the top to keep them in pronto.
