Brooder box question... solution... pics :)

I guess what I'll do is get several different wattages and colors and experiment with a thermometer.
What temp. should day-olds start at? Week-olds... etc?

95 degrees the first week and 5 less each week after (2wks = 90, 3wks = 85) until they are 5 weeks or fully feathered.

I will add that sometimes, the 95 is to high. I usually start around 92/93 and let the chicks tell me what they want. If they are all huddled under the light, they are to cold. If they are keeping far away from it, they are to warm.​
 
A pic is worth a 1000 words...

Discovered that the little red bulb in the enclosed area is connected to a thermostat under the hood... goes off and on and stays right around 95*F !

Put a 40 watt clear appliance bulb in the open area, not for heat, but just for light.

So... all ready for the babies!

ps: I'd forgotten how much I like this old brooder box!
