My first chicks were a spur of the moment decision. They lived in a bathtub with a towel for bedding their first week till I made a brooder for them. I took a small heating pad wrapped in a towel on low heat and placed it under a small towel lined candy box. Pics are in my profile if anyone needs to see what I'm describing. They seemed to love it. Slept in their "nest" when they wanted and had their cooler area everywhere else. Like being under mama when sleeping and the real world temperatures when exploring..
