I have a couple chicks in a cardboard box its 10x15x11. I currently have a 100 watt lightbulb above them about a inch or so above the box i surrounded the bulb with a foil plate to reflect heat. I got these kinda on the fly no pun intended. I dont have a themotor and living in the middle of nowhere no means to go get one. Should i change anything in there box? They seem content there eating drinking sleeping huddled togather. There a day old and its pretty warm in the house right now but in the later part of the night the temps outside gonna go below zero and well obviously house will cool off alot.

I've never used a brooder before, but if the chicks are bunching together I feel like that means they might be cold. I don't know if the 100 watt bulb is enough.I found this page that has some pretty simple instructions.

This illustration indicates distribution of chicks if the heat source is too high, too low, just right or if there is a draft.
