I have always taken them all out too when I clean. I use small animal cages that we had for our guinea pigs and stuff so it's just easier to take the whole thing outside and dump it. I usually only have to clean them every couple weeks. Once they get too big for those cages, I separate them into large dog carriers.
Oh I work around my babies, it's very easy cuz I am using the puppy pads, I just rolld them up and toss em out! It is kinda funny cuz this one time I started to roll too fast and flipped the little one off
I think tho pretty soon I'll have to use something else as the little farts are really starting to scratch alot, that is the cutest thing, I tell ya!
I just love chickens!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
My babies will be two weeks this Saturday!
and all is well!!
On June 1st I'm expecting my next batch from Cackle!

I know it can be dangerous if inhaled, but I've also read on here that a lot of people feed it to their chicks. I have straw in my chicks' run and we've had showers here the past few days. Last night I took my sifter and put DE all over the run and then used a pitchfork to mix it into the straw to help dry it out, but some spilled on their coop ramp and the chicks were eating it once I let them back out of the coop. So far, no ill effects. Sometimes I think we humans tend to worry a bit too much about our "babies."
