Thank you all! My husband is a contractor. The chicken wire is on one side and then a very much smaller wire on the other side. I haven’t had a problem with anything getting into it, I’ve had it for three years now.

High off the ground won't deter a snake, or a raccoon, etc. I have to go with aart on this one. If it is backed with some kind of flimsy 1/4 inch mesh, a raccoon or something else big could tear through the whole kit n caboodle. I can't really tell what kind of wire you have, but I would go with a layer of 1/2 x 1/2 inch 19 gauge hardware cloth on the outside. A 1/4 inch mesh behind it would help to deter small stuff like mice, weasels, small snakes, etc. Cool brooder!
