Have set up the brooder in the garage and am wondering if the noise of the (automatic) garage door opening and closing will scare the chicks? (chicks to arrive in the next day or two)

My chicks seemed fine with it and then eventually it was like a dinner bell to them they figured out when the door opened I was home so they were getting fed. So I think your ckicks will be just fine

I've got 6 chicks, 5 ducklings, and 6 turkey poults in my garage now. It doesn't seem to bother them all that much. IMO, its sort of like with a newborn in the house -- if you tippytoe around and try to keep everything "perfect" they'll just be unaccustomed to anything and everything and become overly sensitized. Let them experience life as it happens and they'll be the more resiliant for it.
