For humidity, could perilite or vermiculite be used?

In theory, your idea should work, if your house temp is stable. The important consideration with your idea is the fact that your chicks will need steadily decreasing temperatures, while the eggs will need stable temperatures. There will also be the issue of the chicks getting more active during this 3 week time period, possibly becoming airborne and landing on top of your eggs. Do you have an other lamp you could dedicate to the egg experiment? You really don't need as much wattage to incubate eggs as you do to brood a batch of chicks. Even placing the eggs in a bowl in a sheltered place in the room with a desk lamp over them might do the trick.

Since I have chickies coming soon I'll probably just simulate a brooder
I'll use a Tupperware with pine shavings and a lamp. For humidity on the last 18 day I might lightly wrap an egg in a warm damp paper towel (not to right so try can't hatch and not covering the airsack

Got my little "brooder" set up. gonna see how it holds temp and probably move it to a more stable environment.

I placed an old (but clean) styrofoam cooler on top of my mini "brooder" to reenact the cardboard walls on my brooder and to help support the light.

Somewhere, I saw on one of the hatch-a-longs that someone was hatching in a tote, with pine shavings. You should look for that, I think she was in PA, and ask what she was using for humidity. I will check back later.
Is getting more Trader Joe eggs out of the question, at this point?

Im probably not going to use TJ eggs for this experiment, because i can olnly fit around six eggs and would rather not take the chance of a little to no hatch rate.
