Today I went to check on my chicks down in the basement and to my horror the brooder lamp was off and they were all huddled together. I freaked out, checked all the outlets, didn't really change anything but when I turned around the light was back on! I have no idea what happened. It gets pretty cold down there at night, probably around 55 or 60 degrees. I am so worried it is going to happen again that I don't know how i'll sleep tonight. I secured the outlets and changed the bulb. What could it have been? I have no idea. I don't know if I can move them upstairs as it may be very stressful for them and it's late. Ugh... any words of wisdom out there? This is my very first time doing this.

Moving them isn't going to stress them. Chicks get shipped all over the United States with little to no problems; most of the time.

If you are living in the US right now then there really is no need for the lamps except at night anyway (if in a barn or shed): unless you are in the Northwest! lol.

I'm in the Northwest.

I changed the extension cord the light was plugged into and checked the bulb, etc. Then I said a prayer and went to bed. This morning all is well.

DH is going to install an emergency lamp today, so if one goes out the other will automatically turn on. Bless him!
