Thinking ahead here for the hatching of these ducklings due to hatch roughly mid-Mar. should i do a 250 or a 150 or perhaps a 100??

This is outside in a mini barn and yes, i doubt our temps will be all that great by then.

Because I already had some on hand, I used a combination of two 30W and a 60W in our indoor brooder.

Of course you'll need more energy to heat a mini-barn, but what I liked is that I could configure the ceramic bulbs (no light, less likely to shatter) to make it warmer or cooler depending on the house temperature and age of the ducklings.
