Brooder lamp

I am going to be moving our chicks out to the coop at 3 weeks (they are 12 days now) Anyway I have no power out there. I was originally going to run a power cord from our basement into the coop, but I am a bit concerned about the cord coming unplugged and the chicks freezing! Is there an alternative to an electric brooder lamp that anyone knows of. gas? battery?

We use heavy-duty extension cords to run power to our 3 coops. Since last May, the only time the cords have ever become unplugged were by human hands...when we needed to use them to use our power tools for different projects.

you definately need some heat on those babies!

Before you plug in the cord, tie a knot with the two cords, THEN plug it in.

That way if someone trips over it, they won't pull apart the plug.

If there is a connection in the middle you may also want to wrap it with electrical tape to keep out the elements. tying electrical cords can stretch the wires, if done enough breaking the conection.
