I am thinking of moving my brooder out to our attached garage. I am worried about the big gust of air though every time the garage door opens. I am just north of buffalo ny if that tells you anything about the weather.

Do you think the "draft" would kill them or is there a way to protect them? Leaving DH's car out in a blizzard is NOT an option.

put something around them,, on the outside of the brooder,, cardboard works good,, the draft going over the top of them shouldnt bother them a bit,, unless it stays open long enough to drop the temp down 20 degrees,, but opening the door, and driving out, then closing it shouldnt effect them. IMO

no sandblaster yet-the mig (I think) welder is next in his wish list.
I think the basement is winning on the where-- now to make them a cat proof space and figure out a good way to make this work. Like week olds pen A, 2 week olds pen B etc- so I can tell at a glance who is who and move the chicks more so than the pens. AND make it easier to keep clean- someone had made a brooder out of a stacking drawer thing- I need to find that again- looked like a great idea.and If I had 2- I could have one clean at all times.so move the chicks, clean the dirty one... but as many as Ihave I might need 3- wonder how it works for dust. The dust is such a problem.

hehehe,, i got the mig

and legbands would work for ages too,, that and a calender lol,,, and @ 3 weeks,, they would be able to jump out of drawers, i think,, and i for myself dont like stacking birds,,, even with plastic between, you get things dropping down.,, but i also havent tried it,, so its jus my opinion.
