Is there a reason to add a roost later and not before there are chicks?
I have read here a few times about adding a roost in few days/weeks after getting chicks.

I was thinking of using a piece of 2x6 upright on the floor. It would give them a 1 1/2 wide perch and 5 1/2 high off the floor. But I think it would be easier to screw it to the floor before there are chicks in there.

That will work for them for the first month or so before they go out to their main coop, but you don't need one. It's fun to see them on it though. It would work and give them time to practice roosting.
