I have a x-large small animal cage I'm going to use as a brooder until my coop arrives and they are a tad older. Should I hang the feeder or set it on the floor of the cage? It's dimensions are: 40½"L x 18"W x 20½"H Here's a picture:

How does this arrangement look? I was just guessing. Am I crazy for using this for a brooder for 9 bantam chicks that are 4-5 weeks old?
Thanks for the advice! Critical feedback is welcome, what would you change?

It's hard to gauge how big that cage is, but the set up seems great, as long as there is plenty of room for the chicks. And they grow FAST!!!

Oops..missed you measurements! That might be okay for now, but when will your coop be done?

The size was my main concern but I was trying to work with what I had ya know?
The coop should be here in a couple of weeks I hope, it's being built now and the shipped. I'm hoping I can make do with this for the two weeks or so then move them outside since the weather has been pretty nice here.
I have no idea how big bantam chicks are at 4-5 weeks old though

I have a baby super yard octagon gate I was going to setup outside to let them run around during the day, hope that helps.

i always use cavie/rabbit cages for the first few weeks...they are easy to clean and spacious enough!

i always hang the lamp above the cage not in the cage.

my cages are 120cm long and 2 x 100cm long..i only use them until the chicks are a few weeks old them move them to thier big chick pen

they never seem squashed in there? suppose it depends how many you have in there!

I think it maybe too close, I have it angled to only hit the back side but they may need more clearance at 4-5 weeks huh?
