Brooder temperature......Help please =)

Well, I did trust the chicks judgment and moved it but everything I have read, tells how important it is to keep them at 95. I had no idea that the deaths they were refering to were caused by smothering. I read that also, but I thought it would really make them sick if they got down to 80. Well I'm still learning

Oh, Thank you everyone. I was starting to get scared. I am always paranoid with babies, whether they are humans or animals. Though, when in dought, I always let them tell me what to do.

I too had that problem so now it is 82 and they seem perfectly happy, I thought ok you like it, thats that. It seems like chicks are like people we need it different. Mine are in the house in a large plastic chest with the lid cut out and wire on top. The light is hung from a pole above the tub in the bathroom. There is a skylight above it and a venting fan in there too. I think the little boggers have it made. I do the worrying, I feed them, I change their dirty flooring and I give them water and attention. LOL definitely they have it made. Jean

Do you mind me asking what you are doing to go through that many chicks a month? Are you raising meaties, or hatching and selling? I am trying to get set up to be doing a couple hundred meaties a month and am interested in your operation?

Thanks for any info, I appreciate it!

Wow, this was a delayed post. It just showed up now. I thought you were ignoring my question earlier

I have used a 60 watt bulb in both bigger aquarium brooders and rubber maid brooders with no problems. That seems to work best for me and has kept them plenty warm.
