BROODER thread! Post pics of your brooders!

Ok updated my brooder to grow out pen, since my 5 week old babies are totally huge already, I stepped out and bought a 10 x 10 dog kennel, added1/2' hardware cloth and a felt tarp underneath and wrapped up around the pen to hold the shavings in.
I must have lost my mind??? about chickens because I spent 309.00 on this stuff yesterday, a couple hundred for small brooders, chicks, feeders ect, and by the time I get that return in meat and eggs I think I'll be dead........heheheheh.....going to take some pictures now will add them soon.
That is after I finish watching my crazy dinosaurs with feathers act like raptors and chase around and jump on each other and fly across the pen, THEY ARE HILARIOUS !!!! Kim

I really love your set up. I like how you took a door? and used it as a divider in the pen. Been trying to think of what I can do in my dog run for a divide. I like how you also put the felt cover around the bottom of your pen as well. I have rail road ties. I am not sure if I have pictures of mine but will see if I can get some. I have a tarp over the top of mine sense mine is outside and we were having rains a few days ago.

Hey everybody!

I haven't updated my brooder post since page 133/134 of this thread so I thought I'd show a few pictures of what I have done! Our 76 chicks are due in about 10 days. We're VERY EXCITED and ready for them!

I installed lights in the new year. I used chains. They are double hooked for safety. I also zip tied the cords to chains. I even secured the the cords to the wood frame along the roof with hooks.

There are two lights in the 4x8 section and one in the 2x8. They are mounted at 18" above the floor. I have done some testing and got temp into the low 90's at this height.

My wife and I purchased a few waterers and different feeders. We also bought adult size equipment for later stages of life when they are moved to the summer coop.

We also got 75KG/165lbs of starter and 10 bundles of pine shaving (plus I had two).

We will be building a larger, new coop this fall. The chicks will be is this brooder and it will be in the garage for the first month or so. Then they will go to the 22x14 coop I'm currently renovating for them for the summer.

I've got 27 eggs in the incubator so I thought I should get my old brooder out and clean it up in anticipation of the hatch. After searching around for an hour or so I remembered that I let a friend who has since moved out of state borrow it. That one is long gone. I built a new one yesterday entirely out of scraps and leftovers. Total cost for this new brooder was $0.00

I use this for little babies, then they move to the big hutch outside. I'll take pics of that too, when they're in it of course

Ty , It actually seems to be working pretty good. Yes they are gates from my dog pen outside there 5'x48" and just barely fit across the pen, actually without the bungee cord they would allow a smaller hen to get through. I am hoping this is a temporary thing because all these babies are the same age mates came in the same box but when they outgrew the brooder 10 were moved to another brooder now I have to try to re-incorporate them before my new babies need this grow out pen, they are suppose to be here May25th. so I have well over a month to get them used to each other again.
If you use a felt roll, mine is a felt belt from a paper machine, make sure to cut it square hehehe we were in a hurry and just guessed it one corner is quite high where the other is actually too low........... LOL should have chalked it. well ya live ya learn......hehe laughing at myself again.
