Cheap easy and functional makes for very happy chicks. I like and most importantly my chicks love having a hot and a cool side especially my older chicks it helps them regulate. I keep a feeder and water on each side so they always have plenty as well as a dust bath in the cool side so I don't take up their warm space but they can use their bath and get some grit. Also I suggest and love to mix diatomaceous earth in the bedding and bath to keep away any pest especially with farm chicks they like it lots.

I find using my bathtub is easiest. I sacrifice taking a bath for a while ( I do have a shower in another bathroom) to get a brooder I can easily clean and lots of spots to hook the heat lamp to. Oh and with this current run I have enough space to separate ducks and chickens and only need one heat lamp.
