BROODER thread! Post pics of your brooders!

Here is our brooder, I am sure it will need to be upgraded in a few weeks as its kind of small for 5 chicks... but it will do for now.

We took an old headboard end cabinet, cut it in half and turned in on its side. We added a dimmer switch, lamp cord, and a flush mount light socket, handle and a knob. Total cost was about $20 plus paint. I love it!

Awesome job upscaling and I love the knob!

I thought I posted pics of our grow out brooder on here. Guess not. My dgh built this for them. It has n2 levels and is about 6 feet tall in total, because they'll be in there for another month or so while the coop is being built and we didn't want them to be uncomfortable.

WOW this is awesome! How big is it, I know you said 6 tall.

That is a great grow out brooder!!! LOVE IT!! I really like what you did for the waterer and feeder--we're planning on doing that in the outdoor coop (when it gets done lol) Our 6 babies are 3 1/2 weeks old and this past weekend I decided to move them out of their little plastic bin brooder...way too small..they were trying to run around or fly and crashing into one another. It was really only good for the first couple of weeks. So....since the outdoor coop isn't ready yet and they are still not fully feathered out I created a corner in our basement as a "grown out brooder" spot. They are loving the space...although when we first put them in they were all scared!! Now they like it and are having fun. I have a temp outdoor run for them as well and they LOVE being outside. Boy, people weren't kidding when they said they grow fast!! Holy chicken they do!!!

I know, they grow TOO fast. Our brooder has 2 levels both 3 feet tall. I figure them having the two levels is kind of like what they'll have in the coop/run. The bottom level is just for playing and the top has roosts and a spot to eat. We love it because wedon't have to worry about whether or not thery have enbough room and they love it because they can run around..and boy do they run around! Especially if they think I have blueberries

The favorite treats right now for my 6 babies are hard boiled eggs and watermelon....oh and the very MOST favorite of all are worms...oh my goodness...they go crazy for worms and play keep away and chase the one with a worm hanging out of her mouth. So funny to watch..it's hysterical!

^^ here's our small rubbermaid brooder we use when we have less than 10 chicks/when they're small. (that's an 85 watt flood light - not too hot)

and here's our BIG brooder, for when we have more chicks and/or when they outgrow the little one. this is the best brooder ever. You can spray it out with the garden hose and fold i up and put it in the closet when you're not using it.

How do you prevent them from flying out of that pool brooder? Mine are 4 weeks and they are flying pretty high now and I'm sure if I had them in that pool they'd fly right out

Here is my pool brooder. I wired chicken wire around it which has kept them in so far. I have 11 chicks which are 3 1/2 weeks old now. I have laid a piece of wire across the top too as they are jumping quite a bit. This is my first time. They are fun to watch grow.
