BROODER thread! Post pics of your brooders!

I am thinking of a water trough too, I have two or more that are too old to use, and now I have my lights, and shavings work just fine...
do I need anysticks to get up on? or just the food and water dishes? I will have to scrounge and see if I still have those from a few years ago, bet I tossed them as they got dirty!
but, I have three weeks still... well, that is 19 days now!

This is our brooder. My husband built it for our 25 chicks coming from McMurray this week. I can't wait

I use a box system that I can keep adding to as the chicks grow. Each box is 18 x 18 x 36 inches and I tape two together length-wise to create approximately 5.5 x 18 row. I then cut out doorways and tape multiple sections together. It works really well and it is easy to keep adding if needed. In the photos below you can see I have two areas open to the chicks and the third area is blocked for now. The chicks use the area on the left as their running track, it's pretty funny seeing them race up and down. As they grow I might need to add another heat lamp but our weather won't get too cold now....maybe!

TammyTX-- Love it! My first brooder was 2 boxes taped together for 13, but yours is way cool! I love it! That last pic is giving me chick fever-- I'm picking mine up at a hatchery on March 10.

Thank you. The duct tape doesn't look very neat but the boxes are disposable and there is nothing to store. I do need to get them a perch, though.

There are so many others here that are just beautiful! If I ever need a more permanent structure I’ll be sure to look here for ideas.

I love the cardboard box brooder: basic but spacious!

Here is my brooder. I made it last year and it works for a couple weeks. Then they move into the garage with a brass pet fence surrounding a big cardboard box and the heat lamp in a corner.

This brooder is a plastic tote with a top made from cubicle shelving (that I also use to make guinea pig enclosures). The heat lamp stand is made from pvc pipe and allows me to raise and lower the lamp depending on what the thermometer is telling me. The therm. is an outdoor static cling type. I just static cling it to the inside of the tote. The whole set up is easy to clean, takes up very little room and can easily hold a few chicks until they try to fly around. And once the chicks move out all the supplies store inside the tote till next year!

This is our second one the first was a big cooler.

They have a shelf at one end and a perch at the other.

Thay have 2 feeders and 2 waters.

The window is nice to sit in a chair and watch them at eye level.
