Well, my most loving husband just brought home dunage from work. What that is is card bord half inch thick that is 5 feet by 3 feet. He brought home 8 sheets of it. Will post pick when it is up. i have 25 rocks comming in 10 days.

I have 12 chicks and i used a 100 gallon waterer that was sitting around because it had a heater melt through it.

I'm new to this, so this is my first attempt at a brooder...and hubby was out of town so I had to 'figure it out' on my own while raiding his tool box & work shop! LOL But the chicks seem content with their new diggs!

AHA! After 3 evenings I've finally seen all the brooders on this thread! Still not sure what I'm going to do though...

But they all look great!!!

Here are some pictures of my brooders. I do keep them in the house for a week then they go into the big brooders.

This is 4 X 8 feet and completely enclosed in hard wire. The top is split in half so I can lift either side. The one inside the barn is split in half right now with chicks on one side and goslings on the other side. I have rubber mats on part of the floor so they can get off the hard wire. I can pull the mats out and hose them off to keep it some what clean.
I have them on casters so I can roll them around and clean under them too.

My 6 chicks started out in this hutch that I put a cardboard box inside with the lamp and food/water. Then eventually I took the box out and let them have full run of the hutch. I recently added a run to the hutch that extends into my garden and then put another door into the wire wall and now I can let them out when I am out there to watch them. I eventually will build a long, narrow, coop along the fence and into the garden as I did with this temporary enclosure. It works well!

I am new at having chicken/rosters. We went to a 'deworming your horse' thing at the feed store and my son charmed his way out of there with these cute guys. (the owner gave them to my son) Luckly I had a 30gl tank that I previously had frogs in. I know this wont work forever cause just in 2 weeks they are double in size. I have had to clean out the tank 3x's in less than 2 weeks cause they poop none stop. Its crazy! But we love to sit and watch them.

He lets them out to run around him room for about 10 minutes a day, about twice a day. Is that ok? Is it ok to have them in your backyard if you live in the city? What kind are they? I think he got 2 males but the kids mixed them all up, so how can I tell if they are male/female?

Here is what I have ours in-

I went to a yard sale this weekend and came home with 2 dog crates to use as 2nd stage brooders. Our first were rubber made containers. The chicks and poults love their new homes.
