Not sure if this will be big enough for my 3 chicks, but we'll see. if it gets too small, I'll just get a bigger one!

I already have a pic on this thread, but I'm re-using the same doggy crate again (this time in the living room) so I am posting the current pic too. hehehhe

Edit: the light on the floor (it's off!) has a white Neodymium bulb (is like sunlight). I sometimes turn it on them when I want to inspect them without the funky color.

This is my fancy disposable brooder. It is 6 ft x 8 ft, and is 3 ft tall. I made a "door," on the near side, so I can go inside. This brooder is in my attached garage, which is heated. The door "hinges," are made of heavy duty duck (duct) tape. It works great. Presently there are 30 residents, and hope to add another couple dozen due in a couple days. I used saw horses to hold a 2x4 (nailed down) for the brooder lights. Another precaution used is to nail the cord down with a plastic thingy with nails in it (can't remember what it is called), used for electrical cords (I think).

Has anyone built a outdoor brooder ? I am wanting to make one for outdoors, that can also be predator proof. I was thinking of a solid wooden box ? with ventilation some how? I looked though most of but not all 100+ pages. Just hoping someone has some good ideas.

It sits in an open bay of my workshop on top of a bench. There's a hardware cloth cover over the top to keep the predators out. The box is 4x6ft with two foot high walls to block drafts. One side is hinged for easy access. The brooder hover is 2ftx2ft and sized for fifty chicks. I've brooded new chicks in it down to twenty degrees.

Never thought about putting in a brooder cover like that. OK, I think they will work for me also. I have got the lumber so I am off to building my outdoor brooder.

Thanks again.

I have a room in our shop my DH built for me that is 8x8 which works great. I will get pics and post later.

I saw this on craigslist tho and thought it would make a great indoor brooder for the house with low dust issues.

I didn't get at as my DH was out of town and I had no help, but it was free.
