Brooder?

You should put paper towels over the shavings for the first few days to stop the chicks eating them! It takes them a few days to figure out what's food and what's not. If they eat the shavings they'll get blocked up and probably die...

al Flock tenders.

I use news papers in the brooder made from a card board box.
but do use paper towels over for the first 3-4 days then add a little wood shavings they
need to learn what feed is and I dip each beak into the water which I add a little sugar,
then after a week I add 1teaspoon of ACV (apple cider vinegar )
and then in their water 1tablesoon to a Gal of water for their life time , they have never been bothered with worms or mites or lice.
I also spray down their coops as needed and as they get older and live out side at the age of 6 weeks.
happy hatching

I cut up my old feed bags , and now days they are some sort of plastic cloth so I can take them out and wash them off when they get soiled , I have 3 brooders so I can swap them out most of the time .
