Can you use heat therapy lamp as a chicken brooder (one off for two chicks). Provided I check the temp with a thermometer?

Hello there and welcome to BYC!

You can use most types of heaters as long as you can monitor the temp in the brooder properly and the temp remains stable. Always use a screen over the top of your brooder to protect heaters or lamps from falling into the brooder. On this note, never use any solid material over the top of the brooder as the heat needs to escape and oxygen needs to flow in for the chicks.

Make yourself at home here and we do welcome you to our flock!

X 2 - as long as there are no toxic substances involved with the heat source (ie teflon) most anything can/will work.

Really monitor the temps. when using for a brooder. Always have it situated so part of the broody is cooler. Then the chicks will go where they are most comfortable.

Thank you for your responses! What a great site! I appreciate you taking the time to help me out :)
