Broodies on eggs? Broodies with babies? Post here.

I guess that's true about the incubator. I only hatched 2 out of 14 in them this year. Couldn't get everything right I guess. I just get mad at having to watch her so closely. Boy can she set, though! I've carried and tipped her nest box trying to rearrange things and she won't budge!

WOW them babies are cute! LOL I can’t wait for mine! Ok i have a Q: Are the babies in the eggs suppose to peep before hatch. I don’t know what day it is like 18 or 19 So when am I suppose to know when they are to hatch?

Chicken girl - up at the top list of the threads here is a "sticky" a locked thread. I think it says "read me" even. It contains a TON of information on incubation and hatching. It's read only now but there are a bazzillion helpful things on it.

It contains lots of ways to tell where you are at, and what's coming. And good luck.

So far none of mine have gone broody, still waiting

but I'm wondering if one of mine decides to go broody and I get some eggs from some one else how soon do I need to get the eggs under her? Does she stop setting after a set time? Say I have to have some eggs shipped and I don't get them til a week after she has been setting will she sit long enough for the new eggs to hatch or will she stop at the right time from when she started sitting?

Then if she sticks with being broody, you'll have an idea of how long she stays broody for.

I wouldn't put eggs under a first time broody.

What do chicks inside the shell sound like? Do they sound like a muffled whistle? I cant tell if its the mom or the babys in the eggs. I think its day 18 or 19.

Mine acted different just before hatch time. It was hard to explain, not any one thing, just different than how she was, so we knew to realy leave her alone. Until then we made sure she got up every day to eat and poop and drink.

And about a pullett sitting on other eggs after going broody, mine went broody and at first i had no idea what was goin on. i thought she was sick or somethin till some other byc'ers set me streight on the world of broodiness. anyway it was about a week and a half later we were able to get her eggs from a friends farm and she took to them like i can't even tell you. for her it was like all of a sudden everything was as it was supposed to be. she was the perfect momma. followed it through until we took 2 eggs away that wern't fertil about a week after due date.

for all her hard work she only got one chick but she is beautiful and she is the best mom ever.

so..... it depends on your pullett/hen just like so many other things in chickenworld.
