Without doubt 3 of my hens are oh so broody.. I ended up giving my Isbar 2 Olive egger (isbar/maran). I also gave my banties one each. I have a problem though. Only 2 of my 7 hens are laying. However, only 3 are obviously broody. Strange things started happening shortly before the earthquake.

My hens started laying sporadically and odd eggs. One day my Maran layed an egg with to much calcium on it and directly thereafter layed a soft shelled egg!! A few days later most started laying normally except for my swedish flower. Her eggs became almost white and consistently have bumps on them. They also vaguely taste of cantalope. Then ALL of my banties quit laying altogether. 2 turned out to be broody but the other 2 are acting normal. My Isbar went broody too. That does not explain why the 2 not broody are not laying. It also does not explain why Flower is still laying almost white bumpy eggs. Also, My girls need a new coop and I am working on it. I am setting up he nest boxes adding doors and the roof then I am done. Right now my broodies are nesting together. This is my first flock. Am I asking for trouble allowing them to brood together? The chicks should all hatch about the same time. Will they fight over the chicks? One banty in the pic of the broodies is the lowest ranking and always likes to hang out in the nest box. Could this all be stress related? There have been over 300 aftershocks since the quake. Thank you for any and all responses.

Answer is: maybe. Some broodies will co-parent with another, other times they'll fight over the chicks or even kill the chicks. Very hard to tell what will happen when you have living animals who can all react differently to a situation.
