My hen has been sitting on her fertile eggs for about five days now and all has been going smoothy except for today i saw small yellow bugs that i assume are lice or mites on her body. I heard that sevin dust would kill the bugs but i also heard they are a bit harmful; i dont want the eggs getting affected. Is there a risk to using it or are there any alternatives?

Where are you located in the world (state/country)?
If she has lice, then you will want to treat her, she has a long way to go and will be miserable, not to mention you don't want the infestation to get out of control or on to any chicks that hatch.
Use a Permethrin based poultry spray or dust to treat her and wherever she is housed. I know you don't want to disturb here, but her health is important. Change out the bedding while you are at it.

2x Similar thing happen with my Grand Daughter's Silkie which is kept at her school Ag yard, their home has an HOA. Ziggy was setting for about 2wks when my Daughter (goes on weekends) noticed "bugs" in the shavings. Mites from what she described ... They live in FL & I live in HI ... Long distance chicken advising

Had them remove all the shavings & sprinkled Poultry Dust on the ground adding more shavings, sprinkling more & working it into the shavings. They also dusted Ziggy & Dusty, sprinkled the nest (lightly). Had her dust the Z & D the next week & :fl So far so good. Long story short, Bubbles arrived on Good Friday with a little help, in their shower stall. The Silkies were taken home due to a major storm passing that weekend.

I live in California and there’s a pet supply store nearby that has poultry items for chickens. I’ll be looking for the dust you recommended. Thank you
