Its just cruel if you try and stop her. Just leave her and over time she will stop untill next year.

Letting them get unhealthy is much more cruel.

If you have no intention/space for letting them hatch chicks, having a broody sit for weeks, not eating or grooming well, not exercising, tearing out her belly feathers, all for nothing, that to me is worse.

Also my Buff Orp has gone broody multiple times each year. Having her do that for extended periods can't be good for her in the long run.

Chicks are a dime a dozen, as the saying goes.
A proven hen that will go broody and has survived long enough to lay is far more valuable.
