Hello! We have a brooding hen now for a solid week or more, no rooster in the mix. Why does this happen? She is a golden hen not Rhodesian red- and has always been hefty, all my girls are well fed. Is it possible that she is the 'queen' and has the DNA for brooding regardless of a present rooster? Curious!

A hen can go Broody regardless of whether or not you have a rooster. It’s just in their nature doesn’t matter if there are the top hen or the lowest in the pecking on. Broodiness doesn’t have anything to do with the DNA for it’s just what they do. Have fun with your booty hen!🙂

okay - but the poor girl is just sitting on eggs for no reason- and she never leaves her nest for food or water?! and with no chick's insight? I provide grains and freshwater but have no idea if she gets any of the two- ?! I feel bad for her.
