Okay, my hen(Salt) was broody about 2 1/2 months ago and she hatched out 1 chick. She has a sister(Penny) and I got home from my swimming group tonight and I checked on the chickens and all three chickens were in the coop!(they usually sleep in our trees) Salt and Penny were both puffed up and making broody sounds,I can't deal with two broodies! And Salt's chick is 7 weeks old! She won't leave her mom's side! Please give me ideas to break the broody sisters!!!

Being broody in a coop is much safer for them than sleeping in trees where an owl, or raccoon could just pick them off. Maybe this is your opportunity to break them of two habits. Get them to roost in the coop where chickens belong and break a couple broodies. Good luck.

Good thought.

Welcome to BYC!

X2 on sleeping in the coop. The trees will leave them open to predators of all kinds. As for the broody girls, keep in mind that some broodies are very determined and nearly impossible to break. When their hormones really kick in, sometimes only time will stop the broodiness.

Make yourself at home here on BYC and welcome to our flock!
