I have 45 chickens-all almost 6 mos old. There are a couple black hens (either Black Stars or Black Australorps) who are already acting broody. I don't want chicks at this time of year do I? Its warm right now in NJ, but that could end at any time. Not to mention that I want pure Blue Andalusians, Sultans, Turkens, and bearded and muffed EEs all in the spring. I have hens and roos of each of them so I don't want any more mutts right now. How can I stop them from being broody now? (if that's what they are doing.)

Just don't let them sit on any eggs... take them all away. As for breaking them, wire cage, water on their tummys, blocked off boxes for a week or so and it should work.
