I was wondering how to make a bantam hen go broody without her having fertile eggs. I want her to sit on my quail eggs. But I don't want to mess with getting a rooster to make her broody.

You can not force a hen to go broody, it is the hens decision. A hen goes broody due to certain hormones- sadly we cannot substitute anything to cause these hormones. You have to wait for her, although if you put in the quail eggs in the nest it might motivate her to go broody.

Ditto on putting eggs in the nest. I do this to "bait" my broodies (I use golf balls so I'm not wasting eggs). I just leave them there until someone starts sitting on them and swap them out for the eggs I want to hatch.

PS- hens will go broody with or without a rooster ;)

Ok thanks! I didn't know that they would go broody without a rooster! Thanks for the help!!!
