Broody Blue Orpington..Gave Her Day 16 Bator Eggs HATCHED/ PICs

Sadly, the first baby to hatch was smashed/smothered by my inexperienced mama. My bator is coming up to temp and in a bit, my DH will bring the others into the house to hatch then be returned to their mother, hopefully. I felt she was sitting way too "tight" last night when I heard cheeping under her, but you just have to hope that instinct will tell them what to do. The baby wasn't out of the shell yet, poor thing. One of my broodies did the same thing with her first batch, so it's no uncommon with the first-timers. Will update later.

AWW you guys always get me so jealous with these threads! I SO want someone to go broody (besides my sex link she eats her chicks) so I can watch that unfold. COME ON SILKIES go broody already! LOL

Oh no speckled hen...sorry that didn't work out. Sorry, I didn't see your current post! Did she try eating it? Mine did the first time she sat. It was horrible. I managed to save three and throw them in the incubator.

We brought the rest of the eggs into the house. Five of the six are pipped, so we'll let them hatch in the house and try to return them to her.

I am loving these broody threads! Learning a bunch. Gotta read more though since I have questions...
I finally have a broody girl (my silkie/cochin mutt, Mystery). DH tried to break the broodiness but it didn't work.

He was quite determined, but not as much as Mystery.

I'd say, Lynn! My Olivia's daddy was a Cochin/silkie cross, if you recall. She was an excellent mother and a very sweet broody.

Today is hatch day. She had 7 eggs and now there are 6 in my bator. Poor #7 was one of the pure Blue Orpingtons, Smoky's baby.
