check out the local pets shop
I found a perfect box that was originally made for carrying small pets, and it's even out of wood (I prefer wood to plastic)
I just made a few modifications and it's great

Mine is not small, but it is fairly simple. I have 12 large nest boxes (16 x 16 x 16) built together with 12 inch wide walkways, but you do not have to build it so big. If you only have two hens, then you could build something similar, but cut it down to only one or two nest boxes.

I built this 12 hole box in an afternoon. A one or two hole version box should be a lot easier to build.

I you happen to have a dog kennel and crate lying around, this might work for you:

The top of the plastic dog kennel gives a broody the feeling of being in a dark, enclosed area, yet has good ventilation, which is important in the summer. The dog crate gives her a little room to stretch her legs, eat, drink, and poop. I put cement blocks on top of both crate & kennel at night, so that nothing can tip them over.

these are some great ideas! I was recently thinking about trying to make something like this that u could use for broody hens or for 2-3 new chickens that you are introducing into the flock... anyone ever make anything like that?
