Hello
I've got a broody hen under which we put 12 fertilised eggs 14 days ago.
She chucked out one egg after 2 days, then another a day later and we also found a damaged one this morning, which was partially incubated :(

Do they know if the eggs are infertile? Or somehow not viable? And is that why she removes them?

Very excited as this is our first time trying to hatch with a broody hen, but also very worried!

Many thanks,

Does she have a bedding filled bowl shaped nest? Grass hay is great for forming a good nest. Do other hens have access to her nest? If so they may be harassing her. Good luck for a successful hatch.

She has a square nest filled with bedding and a little bit of hay. The other hens have been separated, so she is all alone.

She is very good in after herself by going out a few times a day to eat, drink, poo and dust bath, but she seems to in a rush to get back to her nest. So, maybe she is too clumsy. I'm keeping my fingers crossed for the last 8 eggs.

Just a quick update: only one egg hatched (out of 12) and 'Harvey one of 12' has survived its first 40 hours.
It was trying to eat this morning, so hopefully it survives
