Broody Breed?

Is there a breed that is particularly prone to broody behavior?

Silkies are the best breed if you want a broody hen. They only lay about 2-15 eggs before they go broody.

Lots are, silkies are very broody.as are lots of bantam breeds.
On the Standared breeds. American Game. Orpingtons.
Australorp. Jersey Giant. Delaware. New Hamp Red.
Ameraucana/ Araucana. Chanteclers. Turkins. Cochin.
This is just a few that I know of.

I recently learned that Silver Gray Dorkings are notorious for going broody.

One hatchery that sells these adds a warning that they cannot guarantee delivery date as sometimes the whole flock goes broody at the same time and egg production stops.

Thanks, I may have to look into grabbing a couple of hens to hatch eggs with. My current ones are Barred Rocks which are not particularly so.

I have 3 broody cuckoo marans as we speak,with another one seriously cosidering it.

Silkies!! They will set on anything-or nothing at all. Right now I have silkies setting on duck eggs. They saw the eggs (the duck wasn't setting yet) and four of them divided up the eggs and have been setting ever since. I don't think that they could help themselves. The eggs should hatch next week. Silkies are definitely my choice as broodies. PS The duck has made herself another nest and is setting now with no silkie interference.

Well, I think I have the most unusual silkies because mine rarely go broody. My araucana are my best broodies here. The buff orps aren't far behind and like to sit as well.
