Hello, I’m new and I’m looking for broody breeds this is my list so far please help me with what breeds to get or what are not.
1. Buff Orpingtons
2. Speckled Sussex
3. Wyandotte’s
4. Welsummers
5. Dorking (hard to find so maybe not able to get one)
I’m not able to have and bantams or game birds 😢

If you get Orpingtons, make sure you get them from a breeder or something. We had 20 buff Orpingtons from a hatchery and not a single one ever went broody. So make sure you get them from good quality stock. Several people I know have really great broody brahmas. Cochins are really broody also. I would go with Cochins personally (I did, lol) and she seems really good so far. I would add Brahmas to your list and take off Speckled Sussex. Unless you get really good quality SSs from a breeder they won't go broody. We had quite a few of them too from multiple hatcheries and we never had a broody.

I have chick brahmas and I’m super excited about it.

Does anybody Cochins just uses for eggs
What? Do you mean does anyone have cochins just for egg laying? My cochin is my worst egg layer. She lays maybe 1-2 a week. She starts molting sooner and starts laying later than all of my other hens, and stops laying when temps are above 85. Hands down the worst egg layer. She's sweet though.

We find that their egg production is fine - not as high as some breeds, but more than sufficient for us. We're getting about 6-8 eggs per day from 10 hens during the peak of laying in the spring. Pullet eggs start a little smaller, but they lay relatively large eggs (but not extra large) once they mature.
