Broody Breeds?

What breed of chicken goes broody most easy?

Araucanas (real ones) American Gamefowl, Cochins, Silkies, Oriental Gamefowl. (includes Shamos, Malays, Asils, Thai, etc)


Most people will tell you Silkies and Cochins, that's because they're the most commonly known breeds, always available locally or from hatcheries.

Silkies are the broodiest by far!
Most white egg layers don't go broody at all, just saying...

In order from best to good: games, silkies, cochins, orpingtons, most larger breeds.

Yes i've heard they can, but normally don't. The trait was bred out by commercial breeders for egg 'factories'. My leghorns NEVER went broody(as a kid i wanted them to) but a friend had one that did.

My Seramas lay about 6 eggs and go broody.

Most bantams, especially Old English Games and Silkies.

Of the large breeds... Games, Orpingtons, Cochins, Dorkings, Wyandottes.

i have a black austrolarp that seems to be broody ALL the time
