BYC Café

We rarely see skunks here. We're more likely to smell them when they've been hit by a car.

Many years ago, a momma had some little skunks under a bush. Our first Doberman, Shadow, wanted to investigate. Oh no, baby! nononononono!!!! We pulled her away and there were no warning shots from momma.
My first 3 Dobermans all got hit by skunks that liked to take up residence under the shed at my first house. Which happens to be practically at the foot of the hill I currently live on.
Then we moved to a house on a hill about 20 miles east of here. We switched from skunk trouble to porcupine trouble. Three Dobermans got quilled. The one who got it the worst (she ran full tilt for the porcupine and slammed her open mouth onto it) had been skunked in the same place by the same skunk 2 days in a row. She stuck her face under the shed and it nailed her right in the muzzle. I treated her muzzle but couldn't get rid from the stench. Turns out her paw also got hit between the toes.

I smell coffee! Yay!
It is 52 F here with clouds and rain. The good kind of rain that will knock the fire danger down.
I am caught up with the wood spitting.
I felt so funny about sleeping in that I went ahead and got it all split before the rains started. "Make hay while the sun is shining!"
Welcome to the café @BasilA !

Good morning Cafe. Coffee is ready.

I got the wiring mostly done on my sisters mini-split. I have to change out the right angle electrical whip connector to a straight one and forgot to bring wire nuts for 10awg wires. I'll have to make another trip to Lowes for the replacement connector. Irritating.

Today I would like to get the interior wall marked out for the air handler, mount the plate and wire up the handler. Then we are in a holding pattern until the line set gets shipped in 3 days. So maybe by next weekend it will be up and running.

When Dave and I bought ours, we had it in about a week. It took over 5 weeks just to ship a partial order to my sister. I think the ridiculous heat wave has caused a huge increase in demand for mini-splits. They increase home value, are far more efficient than a window or portable unit, can double as a heat source and can also just dehumidify the air or just move the air and are pretty easy for a DIYer to install. AND you get a 30% Fed tax credit on them.

If my sister and her husband had hired a company to install what I am putting in, they would have paid about $7,000 and would have gotten back $2000 on a tax credit. With me doing it for them and us buying our own components, they'll end up paying a total of just under $1,800 after their tax credit.
