Broody but not broody! So confusing.

I have this Barred Rock hen that keeps going in the nesting box and staying. BUT she doesn’t do the ruffled feathers/growling thing. So I put her in broody jail (coated hardware cloth as a floor and fan blowing through). She stands most of the time (not broody behavior). Had her in there for three days (giving her one break per day and putting her back), and decided to let her out this evening. She’s back in the nesting box while everyone else is roosting.

Never had this happen before. All my hens that go broody act broody until they are broken. Could there be something else going on with her? She seems fine, other than being a PITA!

she may be feeling poorly even if she's not otherwise showing it - like people take to their beds when they're feeling bad. You could show her some TLC instead of thinking of her as a pita.

Oh aren’t you cute inserting your little judgmental comment at the end. Healthy appetite, drinks plenty behaves like a broody EXCEPT for ruffling and growling. Plucked belly feathers like a broody. Sits on eggs like a broody. When in jail stands A LOT (not like a broody OR A CHICKEN WHO IS SICK!).

I’ve given more heartbreaking TLC to wounded or sick chickens so you can take your judgment about my light-hearted PITA comment and stick it elsewhere.

Are you ok OP? I know everyone has their burdens we know nothing about, your rebuttal makes me think something more is going on here. No one is accusing you of abusing or neglecting your chickens.
