Broody but still laying eggs

I have a forever broody too! Less then a year old and in the middle of winter she tried to hatch 2 or 3 times.
This is Lila.

What she thought of my attempt at blocking off the nest boxes...

I finally gave in and she is the happiest Momma hen!

She did randomly lay an egg or two while brooding. I’m also pretty sure she didn’t poop for 3 weeks. I had food and water right outside the nest box for her. Even trying to force her to leave so she would eat didn’t work. She would just run around “tuck tuck tuck” all stressed.

You can give her a day old baby if you can find one. She may accept it. Be prepared if she doesn’t. If not I would keep doing what you’re doing. It’s not healthy for them to be broody for so long.

Good Luck!

Hi! I have a Bantam Cochin girl that Is a die-hard broody! I tried to break her the first time and she completely stressed out, lost lots of weight. Now when she goes broody, I set her up in a separate cage with food, water...i put it right in front of her so she can eat from her nest box. She has gone broody 4 more times since our first episode (she is ONLY a year and 2 months old) and stays healthy each time. Some girls are just habitual broodies so I decided not to fight it with my girl after the first time. I kick her out of her nest twice a day to run around, dust and poop. Each hen is different so you just have to do what works for you and her. Good luck!!!View attachment 1460965
