I have a pair of Magpie Calls, the hen started laying eggs early this spring. I had been taking them from her, but she seemed so agitated by this and I had seen her be bred by the drake, so I decided to see what she would do. Over the course of a week, she laid a clutch of 8 eggs made a super nice nest and has been setting ever since. Problem is, I have forgotten how long she has been nesting and don't have an approximate hatch date! I have heard that baby calls sometimes have trouble hatching, and I'm afraid I will not be there when they pip! I would HATE to loose any of these ducklings because they couldn't make it out on their own. Any thoughts or ideas? She seems to be a good mama, never leaves the nest except to eat, drink and bathe for a minute or two. Also, do I need to remove the drake? Will this upset her? I heard they will sometimes kill babies in confinement. They are in a 5x3 run with a pool. Any idvice would be greatly appreciated.
