Hello,

I have a silkie, less than a year old. Up to now, she has been laying a single egg every day, including when everyone else molted. She lost most of her head feathers, but nothing else. Recently she began acting ill and losing more feathers, and stopped laying that egg. The head feathers have not grown back. I thought she might have mites/lice, treated her, but she seemed worse. I took her to the vet who told me no mites/lice, but that she was actually brooding. However, since that time she began tucking her head under her stomach--I thought she was trying to arrange imaginary eggs or had wry neck. Neither seem to be the case, but she has no feathers on her tummy. I'm guessing she did this herself, but I can't catch her or actually see the evidence. She is smaller than the others, but they don't pick on her. I've tried isolating her in the house, but she mopes until she is back with her flock. The vet is at a loss--although we did check, and we need to worm her (and thus the flock). She says to worm her and see what happens after that. I will do, but I'm not sure that is all there is...and she has no feathers on her tummy. Should I coat it with something? Try to fashion a sweater to protect the area? I am at a loss...thank you!
