I have a jumbo brown hen that has been sitting on some eggs for a few days now, it's really neat to watch. But I didn't think they were suppose to go broody. I was just wondering if anyone has ever had a hen hatch out some chicks and possibly if this trait will pass to her offspring.

I don't knwo of anyone who has had it happen to their coturnix hen on here but yes it is possible

If she's deffinatly not leaving the eggs only to eat then yes she's deffinatly being broodie. I've had hens that lok like they're brooding, sitting on the eggs while and for a few hours after they lay an egg but during the night they get off the eggs

LOL

There was someone that had posted a pic a while back of their A&M hen with chicks, so it is possible, just highly unlikely.
If she does hatch chicks, it could pass on to the babies. You'd just have to wait and see

Where is that post I'd love to see those pictures.

me too! I missed that! I had a golden hen that I was wondering if she might be going broody too - she's spending more and more time sitting (but I'm still taking the eggs, but I might end up leaving some for her to see if it could happen).

I couple of years ago when i was raising quails, 2 of the females did go broody and they hatched 2 chicks each. It is possible for them to become broody but it is very rare.

Thanks for the feedback. Well I guess time will tell. She is still sitting on the eggs though every time I check her so I hope she hatches some chicks.
