Help appreciated: Hi there I have a broody Goose she’s been sitting on her eggs for 3 months now and she insists on staying like that. I have no access to Muscovy duck eggs nor do I plan on raising other ducks. So I’m trying to give her some Brahma chicken eggs and see if she could hatch them. I don’t want to force her out because it will stress her so would it work if I take away her spoiled eggs and replace them with some large chicken eggs ?

Don’t geese get wet a lot? I don’t know if the chicken eggs would handle that. Also because they’re so different the goose may take em swimming and the chicks would drown.

I don't see why not. We had a chicken hatch duck eggs and stay with them for a month. She thought they we weird for wanting to get into the kiddy pool though. We also lock them up in separate small nest with separate food and water so they have nothing to do but hatch eggs. We had problems with chickens moving to fresh egg boxes otherwise.

You’re right the compatibility is the problem for me. I don’t need to worry about them getting wet. The goose is a Kurdish breed they don’t get wet very often. And the water is in a tub so the little ones won’t be able to reach it at such young age. My only concern is wether she’ll hatch them or accept them once hatched.

Thanks I’ve done that too. So I’m familiar with the process but not with geese.... I’ll make sure to update this once I finish the experiment.

Will be waiting for the update 😊
She may accept them, but they’ll be raised like geese and may not fit in with the chickens 🤣
Like a young kid being raised by wolves/dogs. They’ll pick up habits or ways of the other animal that don’t match their own.
But nonetheless, very excited to see the result 😃

How did it go? I have an African Grey goose who gets broody and sits on my duck eggs. She raised two male ducks a couple of years ago. It was the sweetest thing! I think I took more pictures of them following her around than I took of my own kids. Haha! Jk. Anyway, I don't need anymore ducks, but I was hoping to give her a few chicken eggs to raise. How did it go for your goose?
