Broody got off eggs for 5 hours! Update and pics page 2

pbj maker you were right. They were a day late from being cooled. 2 out of 5 have hatched so far. The other eggs don't seem to have any pip. I am happy that we have 2 at least.

The first thought that came to mind when I saw the black one was Roo. Does anyone else agree or is it too early to tell. My other chicks never looked like that at the comb. I don't care I am so happy they are here!!!

Let's hear it for the Creator, for making lil' bird eggs so resiliant!

That's such a pretty hen, what kind is she? I love her grey color. And those are some pretty lil' chicks too, a nice multi-colored family. Sometimes it takes all day and part of the night for all the eggs in a clutch to hatch, there might be more to come. If you're really feeling ambitious you could ready your brooder for any unhatched eggs that remain tomorrow, to see if they might still hatch. You should candle them at least, they might have been duds anyway.
We rejoice with you and your

Oh, do you mean I could take them out from under her and keep them under heat to see if they hatch?

I would like to take them out by tomorrow if nothing hatches but would be curious to see if they would hatch.

Should I take them out in case they are rotten by Tueday? Hatch due day was Sunday so that would be an extra 2 days.

Thank You!!!!!!

Oh and sunny_side_up thank you, I bought her as a day old at the feed store as Ameraucana so I guess she is an Easter Egger. She is the sweetest hen! We just love her.

Congratulations on the new babies. Momma is very pretty!

In my humble opinion I'd like to suggest you quit messing with her. She has thousands of years of dna information in her system cluing her in to perpetuating the species and the species is still alive and well

The first time you moved her confused her and possibly (though I hope not) cost you some babies, so I'd be thinking, if she were mine, leave her alone to deal with her babies all by herself.

Yeah, I know, easier said than done.

Just LEAVE them there. For 24 or 25 days. Unless there's a smell. While a broody will make mistakes, you have to give the chicks up to that many days especially when they've been chilled. This is not a formula, it's nature and sometimes it takes its own sweet time.

25 days is good to know. Thats not too long? My only concern is that (I read on here somewhere) that they could explode if rotten.

One more question....sorry....but if they were rotten would I smell it through the shell?

and pupsandpullets, I hear ya.....I keep telling myself....stop....bad.....stop messing..... I can't keep my nose out of there! It is even tempting to show the babies where the water is etc......I am going to trust Mama to do her job.
