I think tuesday or wednesday should be hatch day.

Some how she acquired 2 more eggs which I am pretty sure will not hatch with the other. No incubator for me yet so I do not think I will be able to hatch them.

I have not decided yet if I will block off part of the coop for her or just let them all together and see what happens. My flock is considerable smaller due to some processing a week or so ago so I am not sure what to do yet.

I can set up a brooder in the garage but kinda wanted to see her raise them as well. I do not have any real agressive hens or roosters for that matter.... Decisions decisions.

Porkchop...maybe advertise the 2 new eggs on Craigslist to see if anyone near enough has an incubator and can adopt them?

I'm having to tke a daily chicken egg out from under my duck. But those go into the fridge and eventually our bellies LOL. I figure if I get to them before she can really sit for long they should be fine. Not sure if a chicken is laying them in her lcutch or if she's stealing and hoarding. The hens have their own hen house but they all share and I see Spotty (broody duck) chekcing the hen house when she gets up for food/water breaks. It's mean her carrying them down one ramp and up another. I did find an egg on the mucky run floor once.

I'm not sure when her eggs should hatch. I know 35 days incubation but I truly have no clue where they are at. she did kick an egg out of the clutch, which I but in the bator but it looked off...3 days later I confirmed it had died. It was maybe 14-20 days. I think. She's still turning them. Before Christmas I imagine.

Well I came home today to some semi cold eggs. i think she may be too small for the amount she was trying to brood. The ones in the middle were nice and toasty so I guess we will see in a few days.

Does getting chilled effected them horribly?

Depends on how long they are cold I would imagine???
My broody has gotten off the nest and onto the wrong 1 twice now. Both times the eggs were ice cold as our highs have been in the 30s and 40s since shes been brooding. I have candled them probly more than I should have but its my first time with actual eggs hatching (usually just buy day old chicks) so I was curious along the way. The all have developed and look great. lots of movement inside. So I think eggs are a lot more resilient to temp fluctuations than people give em credit for. I have heard colder temps can cause them to hatch late???

I can handle a late hatch. I just hope even a couple of them hatch

Today or tomorrow.

I'm out of the broody game (and cranky)

Left work this morning to my car broken into in the stupid parking lot (not enough security)...get home and go to do poultry feed rounds and find Miss Spotty had divided the nest up. She seems to have abandoned both portions, and Anna our Americana who JUST STARTED LAYING was sitting on the smaller nest of 3 eggs...a dud, a terribly rotten one, and a possibly viable (veins and growth but it looks sluggish, may be cold??) and the rest of the 7 were like the good one under the chicken. So I took them all away, and they are in the incubator. They were ice cold.

Maybe Spotty will start laying again soon and I can sell her eggs again...

Crud. Hoping some of these hatch.
