Broody help

Hi all.

Have two broodies - is it normal for them to stick together like glue?!

I’m trying a broody jail now as for this one it’s been a month, she won’t break no matter how many times I shove her out of the coop/nest each day, I don’t leave any eggs in there at all and they’ve just been laying on nothing.

The black one (Kendrick) keeps putting Eggmerelda under her wing almost, I don’t know if it’s a comfort thing, a broody thing, a dominance thing…

I shut them out today and as you can see, again she was on top of Eggmerelda?!

Should I put them both in broody jail? I only have the one spare crate which is a large dog one. I don’t want them to still cling to each other though?!

Any advice please?

Two hens will try setting together. It sometimes works out, and other times it doesn't. They look like bantams, who are often persistent broodies, so it's always best to just break them in the cage. It generally takes 3-5 days. The sooner it starts the quicker they break. Expect them to go broody a couple of times during the season.

Have 7 chickens and only getting 0-3 eggs a day (2 are silkies so not expecting them to pay their way ) at the minute. They’ve not been laying elsewhere either, so it’s not like they’ve been scared off by the broodies and laying somewhere else.

Eggmerelda is in the crate now, hopefully it’ll take a day or two and then I can switch her for Kendrick, I don’t think them being together in there will help?

If hens get along you can pen them together. I currently have 9 in a pen getting broke. If I did one at a time I wouldn't get anywhere keeping up with all my broody bantams.

Your Pekin hens are so cute.

My personal experience is that:
My set up is nestbox access readily, so I let my broody hens out in the general garden areas, they tried to get back in the run, which they can not, and then got distracted with digging up my garden, they took about 2 weeks to broke off broodiness.
