My young broody (Barred Rock) hen is sitting on her first clutch. I think I assembled a clutch that was too large for her (10 eggs) and she broke 3 eggs the first day. I was able to clean up the nest but several of the remaining eggs are coated with yoke and shavings. She seems to be fine with the 7 eggs that remain. I assume I shouldn't attempt to clean the eggs. Is there any chance the eggs will still hatch? Should I leave these eggs as they are or should I assemble a new (and smaller) clutch for her? She's been sitting for almost a week now.

Same thing happened with my Buff O. (A brand new mother too.) She broke a few, cleaned the nest up and continued to sit on the remaining eggs. I didn't touch them or wash them. She hatched the rest of the eggs a few weeks later.

My vote, leave them alone.
